[Interview: Pinkunoizu]

We like Full Time Hobby a lot. They’re nice guys. They were the first people to let us set foot in a record label’s office and, y’know, do stuff for ’em. As happenstance goes, they’re also responsible for putting some of our very favourite releases spanning over the last 5 years-ish; Tunng, Malcolm Middleton and Viva Voce are regular guests on our car stereo (you read that right – it’s got a CD player) spotify playlists and the occasional mix tape CD we put together for people we really care about. So we weren’t surprised in the slightest upon learning that  Denmarkian noise-merchants Pinkunoizu were the next in line to join this already-enviable roster, who are about to bring their childishly-hilariously-named but nevertheless ambitious Peep EP to the musical front line, already earning some rather elaborate props from publications ranging from NME to i-D Magazine along the way. Naturally, we wanted answers. They provided them…

Could you introduce yourselves for the hi-brow readership of the Killing Moon blog?

We are Andreas, Jeppe, Jaleh and Jakob from the Danish group Pinkunoizu. We’re about to release our debut EP on Full Time Hobby called ‘PEEP EP’. On that EP you’ll be able to listen to some music we’ve recorded in our two spaces in Copenhagen and in Berlin. We are partly based here and there. Some of the music drifts in space, and some of it creeps like a purple haze. Take a listen if you feel like.

KM: Don’t mind if we do. Cheers.

Favourite release of the last 12 months, and why?

Right now I primarily think of Thurston Moore’s ‘Demolished Thoughts’. I’ve always wanted to hear what Sonic Youth would sound like all acoustic. So this is the closest I’ve gotten. I like the structures and the arrangements on there.

KM: Whoawhoawhoa there, sweet child of mine. There were at least four of you before. What’s all this “me-me-me” shash? Something’s gone terribly wrong. Have you had a bust-up? Is this the early sign of an inter-band power struggle? But hey, you dig Sonic Youth, so let’s forget about the whole thing and move on…

Favourite show of the last 12 months, and why?

SWANS at Roskilde Festival. That shit was out of this world. I’ve never been frightened and seduced like that at the same time before. It felt like a public execution of some sort.

KM: We believe you. Judging by this clip we just found on the interwebtube, we’re assuming Conan The Barbarian on percussion brought the fear, and Colonel Sanders at the front was the seductive element – we too have personally succumbed to the good Colonel’s benevolent and charming smile at many-a service station on numerous occasions. We genuinely wish we could have been there with you.

If you could moon anyone, or anything, who or what would it be?

I would moon the sun.

KM: We have never, ever thought of that. Holy shit.

You’re about to be killed. You get to pick one song to hear before your inevitable demise. What’s it gonna be?

In Dreams with Roy Orbison. In Blue Velvet it really works out nicely as a you’re-about-to-get-killed-score. In that way I might just die in a simulacrum of fictional bliss.

KM: This is one of those embarrassing moments where you learn that there are in fact people from entirely different countries that have mastered your own native tongue better than you have in 26 years. Wanna write for Killing Moon? Please?

Killing In The Name Of, or Dark Side Of The Moon?

Killing In The Name Of – Dark Side Of The Moon seems too meek in comparison.

KM: I think I love you.

Peep EP is released on Full Time Hobby Recordings on 5th September 2011 (digital) and 7th November 2011 (physical).

‘Time Is Like A Melody’ is available for free download HERE.
